Unfathomable Grace

Is your soul troubled? Are you messed up on the inside? Do you feel cold, distant, and could you use some old-fashioned, Holy Spirit revival?

How about your mind? Is it spinning? Could you use some aid in evaluating options and making wise decisions today?

Wouldn’t you love to skip the loving but painful discipline of the Lord today and enjoy the wonderful consequences of walking in wisdom and obedience?

Friends, King David wishes to be of assistance to you. Listen to his inspired guidance:

The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.     (Psalm 19:7-11)

According to King David, the Bible is the tool used by the Holy Spirit to revive your troubled soul.

Additionally, according to the prophet, Scripture is the means whereby God intends to instruct your mind and make you more intelligent. So, if you find yourself to be simple-minded, or if you find yourself to be double-minded, or if you find yourself to be carnally-minded, praying through the Scripture is the cure for your intellectual folly.

For these two reasons, David finds the Word of God to be fantastically valuable. Gold and silver have some worth, but not in comparison with the Scripture. So too does honey, fine foods, or other things that pleasure the flesh; these are indeed gifts of God. However, they pale in significance to his Word.

So let’s go back to the beginning questions:

Oh, doesn’t your heart hurt? Don’t you need peace, encouragement, and wonderful words of life?

Is not your head spinning? Aren’t you weary of being a double-minded individual who is unstable in all your ways?

Wouldn’t you love to skip the loving but painful discipline of the Lord today and enjoy the wonderful consequences of walking in wisdom and obedience?

Are you sure?

If so, I have very good news for you. The Word of God is available for you in print. You can find it on the internet. You can listen to it on your smart phone. Sermons from the Word of God are available weekly in your church, daily on the radio, and hourly on the world-wide-web. Devotional books and blogs are in abundance. Therefore, take advantage of the opportunities before you to swim in the Word of God. Take advantage of your Sunday school classes, small group meetings, youth groups, men’s gatherings, women’s studies, and fellowship opportunities. Brothers and sisters, there is no reason for you to be spiritually malnourished — a buffet of comfort and wisdom is before you. You live in a day when you do not have to wait for a prophet or apostle or pope to come your way. The Word of God is immediately available to all.

So do not allow your soul to suffer any longer.

And do not walk in folly any more.

Open, read, meditate, memorize, pray and be improved. Your Heavenly Father longs to commune with you and grant you the peace and wisdom you desperately need. If you draw near to him — through prayer and his Word — he will draw near to you.
