Looking Up

God is so loving! He is kind, merciful, and gracious towards all men – especially those upon whom his special favor rests.

God is so true! He is honest. He is wise. His counsel never fails.

God is so angry! He despises the Evil One who targets, tempts, deceives, and harms his own. He hates indwelling sin and the multitudinous transgressions flowing from it.

God is so longsuffering! He is not quick to wrath but is patient towards his fallen image-bearers.

God is so forgiving! Fantastic are his wondrous works to the children of man. For as sinners cry to the Lord in their day of trouble, he delivers, heals, teaches, and encourages his sin-plagued saints.

So, how do you find yourself today?

Have you forsaken that which is good, true, beautiful, wise, and beneficial?

Have you valued and chosen that which is evil, false, ugly, and harmful – foolish?

Now, are you suffering trouble, distress, and affliction? Does life seem like a wilderness experience for you? Are you a bit scattered, waffling back and forth, hungry, thirsty, faint, and longing for something better? Do you find yourself in bondage, imprisoned, or addicted? Lost your appetite for life? Do you feel like a tattered ship, abused by the waves of life, about to crash on the rocky shore?

Consider the good news found in Psalm 107:17–22.

In the past, God has shown unfathomable grace to Adam, Eve, and all their messed-up descendants.

In the present, he continues to do the same. Today, for anyone and everyone who calls to the Lord in their day of trouble, God sends out “His Word” and delivers, heals, teaches, and encourages. Fantastic are his wondrous works!

So, today, there is no need for you to deny or discount your sin.

There is also no need for you to walk further in sin, in stupidity, and suffer more.

Jesus is the Word; he is near; he is compassionate; he is longsuffering; and he is crying out to you.

Therefore, cry to the Lord on this day and experience his steadfast love, deliverance, and wondrous works. Then, go to prayer, offer yourself as a living sacrifice, and enjoy singing songs of joy for all his deeds.
