Thoughts from 18c

This morning, I write from Delta Airlines, seat 18c. Currently I am in route to New Jersey where I will have the opportunity to talk about Jesus, his Gospel, and his Church.

Why have I heard the Good News?

Why have I believed that which others have dismissed and scorned?

Why have I had the opportunity to be so thoroughly trained in the Christian faith?

Why has the Lord not “sidelined” me for my sin?

Why do I currently have this ministerial opportunity?

Why am I getting paid to do that which I would gladly do for free?

In the words of Saint Paul, “I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, appointing me to his service, though formerly I was a blasphemer ….  (1 Timothy 1:12-13)

In Christ alone, I am redeemed.

In Christ alone, I am judged faithful.

In Christ alone, I will be faithful today.

Oh friends, rejoice with me. Today, I get to see how Christ will choose to use me. Perhaps something fantastic will happen. What a calling! What a privilege! What a job!

And I am not alone, for all who are in Christ Jesus wake today with the same mission.

Friends, today, wherever you may be found, do your part to speak of Jesus, his Gospel, and his Church. He had faithfully loved you, despite your blasphemy. He has declared you faithful. He is making you faithful. Therefore, serve him faithfully. What is on your agenda today? Wherever you are, be Christ’s ambassador there.

Oh friends, what a calling! What a privilege! What a job! Let’s go to work.
