Would you like to “walk in the way of the good?” Today, wouldn’t it be fantastic to “keep to the paths of the righteous” and enjoy life in the land of God? (Prov. 2:20-22)
How about it men; could you use some help being “delivered from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words?” Are you tired of giving in to the seductions that abound? (Prov. 2:16-19)
Ladies, would you “be delivered from the way of evil men, from men perverted of speech, those who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness?” (Prov. 2:12-15)
Well then, what you need is “understanding … wisdom … knowledge … and discretion.” (Prov. 2:9-11)
And from where do such benefits come? They proceed from God, “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints.” (Prov. 2:6-8)
Therefore, what is your responsibility? You must read God’s Word and pray. Oh friends, listen to the compassionate call of your wise and loving Heavenly Father: “My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.” (Prov. 2:1-5)
Beleaguered brothers and sisters, did you get up this morning, open God’s Word, and talk to him in private prayer?
If not, will you do so right now? Can you not find a quiet place for a few minutes with your Savior, Lord, and Wonderful Counselor? Anything is better than nothing. Find a closet. Go to the restroom. Take a walk around the house or office. Visit your car during your coffee break. Pull over to the side of the road. Shut your door, take the phone off the hook, and open the book.
But what about tomorrow? Will you go ahead and set the alarm on your mobile device so you can enjoy some “God and I” time tomorrow morning?
Struggling friend, how much longer will you lose daily battles with the world, the flesh, the devil, the perverted man, and the loose woman? Understanding, wisdom, knowledge, and discretion are readily available from God. Like a guardian, he is there to watch over you. Like a shield he is able to give you strength to withstand the mental, emotional, relational, and physical onslaughts from the devil. However, God requires some faithful labor from you. As his saint, you are to search out his Word and supplicate to him. Oh, why would you remain ill-informed? Why would you have a moderately inflamed soul? Why would you walk through your day without God’s superabundance of grace? Go to God. Do so through prayer and the Word. He has time for you. He awaits your call. Who knows, he might even be using this very blog as a means to call you to him right now.
Proverbs 2
My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you, delivering you from the way of evil, from men of perverted speech, who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, who rejoice in doing evil and delight in the perverseness of evil, men whose paths are crooked, and who are devious in their ways. So you will be delivered from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words, who forsakes the companion of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God; for her house sinks down to death, and her paths to the departed; none who go to her come back, nor do they regain the paths of life. So you will walk in the way of the good and keep to the paths of the righteous. For the upright will inhabit the land, and those with integrity will remain in it, but the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the treacherous will be rooted out of it.
