Unfathomable Grace

Lazarus appears to have been one of Jesus’ best friends, and as such he was the source of much comfort, joy, and encouragment. However, towards the end of Jesus earthly ministry, Lazarus died. A few days later, Jesus addressed his disciples, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I go to awaken him.” (‭John‬ ‭11:11‬)

Jesus then travelled to Bethany, and after some dialogue with friends and foes, believers and unbelievers, Jesus went to work, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I know that you always hear me … then he cried out with a loud voice, ‘Lazarus, come out.’” (John‬ ‭11:41-43‬)  On the command of Jesus, death and the grave could not hold Lazarus. Upon the command of Jesus, Satan proved to be impotent. Yes, when Jesus decided to speak and act, unbelievers could only stand around in fear and trembling as their faithlessness proved to be foolish. And in the end, Jesus and his best friends were found worshiping together again. God was glorified, and they were enjoying him as they would for all eternity. 

Dear friends, as it was in the day of Lazarus, so shall it be in the final day. Jesus  will come in his own timing. Jesus will dominate in the face of Satan. Christ will glorify his name before the eyes of unbelievers who watch in horror, and all who are best friends of Jesus will come forth from the grave and be found glorifying and enjoying him on that glorious day. 

Therefore, let us not live as those without faith. And let us not grieve as those without hope. It is most likely that we will all fall asleep, but then he will come to awaken us again. This is the best of news for those who are his beloved. For those who are not yet his beloved, there is yet time for you to find yourself married to the Man.
